Ricky Hatton’s love of Manchester City is well documented but it’s a Manchester United player that the former world champion has compared himself to.
The fanatical City supporter used his club’s ‘Blue Moon’ anthem when performing his ring walks as a fighter and away from boxing, Hatton is a frequent visitor to the Etihad Stadium.
As a boxer possessing a fan favourite style that saw him register a number of impressive wins over the likes of Kostya Tszyu and Paulie Malignaggi, Hatton’s front foot approach brought him multiple successes.
Asked which footballer he’d most resemble, Hatton wasted no time in providing two names who often played the game in a furious manner.
“Vinnie Jones or Roy Keane. I was very aggressive as a boxer, always attacking, throwing body punches and on the front foot,” said Hatton when speaking to OLBG.
“That was the same when I played football. I started playing football when I was 16 and had already been sent off three times.
“I was always very fit because of my boxing at football, always a good tackler as you could imagine, a good passer of the ball so I was probably a Vinnie Jones or a Roy Keane.”
