Roy Keane has told Marcus Rashford to focus on football if he wants to turn his career around.
The Manchester United forward enjoyed the best return of his career in Erik ten Hag’s first season, scoring 30 goals in a campaign for the first time ever.
However as Ten Hag’s men have struggled this year, Rashford has also failed to live up to expectations, scoring just four times.
There was controversy last week when Rashford was pictured enjoying a late night in Belfast, before failing to attend training on Friday due to illness.
He was then left out of United’s FA Cup win at Newport County on Sunday evening, but it appears the club and player are willing to now move on from any potential disciplinary action and focus on the rest of the season.
Rashford has occasionally courted the limelight and public attention in the process, and speaking to Sky Bet, former United midfielder Keane said that he now needs to keep his eye on sport rather than anything else.
He said: “We talk about him [Marcus Rashford], he’s a young lad, lots of pressure and he’s local, but it doesn’t look like he’s enjoying his football anymore. It goes hand in hand, what is happening off the pitch and on it. Football looks like it’s a chore to him, and it shouldn’t be.
“There’s pressure on everybody there, but he’s a big player for Manchester United. He’s shown before that he can produce.
“The cars, the watches, all that is great, but don’t forget what comes first – your football. Good luck with all that other stuff, but if that is becoming more important than your football, then you’re in trouble.”
