The club look on course to reach League One.

Dean Saunders has said what Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney need to do if they want to win promotion to the Premier League.

Wrexham have been propelled back up the football pyramid after some relatively heavy investment, and they are yet to hit a natural ceiling on their ambitions - and their owners’ pockets.

Speaking to Instant Casino, former Liverpool star and Wrexham manager Dean Saunders said that the pair would have to be willing to spend big if they wanted to reach English football’s summit.

He thinks the Championship is the first target they should make, explaining: “Wrexham have to target the Championship first and foremost. Once they get there, they'll be up against three teams coming down from the Premier League who'll be awash with parachute payment money.

“Burnley stormed the Championship last season, whilst Leicester, Southampton, and Leeds have been impressive this season. The cream always rises to the top. Some of their players will be on £100,000 a week or more. Other clubs will have players who are on £3,000. That's the reality of the Championship.

“Wrexham's intentions will become clearer as soon as the owners state their desire to play Premier League football. It's easy to say, but they have to invest the money. I don't mean to take the romance out of football, but it really is about money.

“If I had to ask someone who the Premier League's top six will be in 2030, they'd probably say Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Spurs, Newcastle, and Arsenal. It doesn't matter who the managers are. Money is the most important thing. The top six have their own mini-table.

“These clubs will never be relegated as they're playing in a league of their own. They've spent the most money on players and they have the best ones.

“Every single one of Pep Guardiola's players are better than the opposition most of the time. There are a few players who he'd like to have, like Mohammed Salah and Declan Rice, but he usually has better players than everyone else.

“The only way he loses a game is if his team plays below-par and the opposition team is on fire. There's also the matter of VAR decisions, which can be 50-50. If both teams play well, then Man City win. They just have better players.

“I have a feeling Wrexham will get into the Championship, but they'll be playing against Premier League-level players. We'll wait and see. They can certainly dream about reaching the Premier League, but their target should be reaching the Championship.”
