The 29-year-old's 55th-minute goal was the difference as Spurs claim all three points.

New season, same result for Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City.

Spurs opened their 2021-22 Premier League campaign with a 1-0 win over the Sky Blues at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, powered by a 55th-minute goal from Son Heung-min. It's the third time in a row that Spurs have defeated City at home in league play, giving new Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo a victorious start to his tenure in north London.

With Harry Kane not included in the squad, Spurs needed someone else to provide the attacking impetus against a loaded City side, and Son stepped up in the second half with a brilliant strike on a counterattack. The 29-year-old Korean international has made a habit out of scoring against the Sky Blues, and he continued his stellar play against the reigning Premier League champions with a well-struck curler that eluded City goalkeeper Ederson for the match-winner.

City ended the match with a 66-34 possession advantage and outshot the home side 18-13, but couldn't stop Son and Tottenham from claiming all three points on Matchday 1.
