Neighbouring European powers Spain and Portugal face off Thursday on the first matchday of the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League.
The teams will each see themselves among the favourites to win the competition, with the Portuguese forever holding the distinction of being the first team to claim the Nations League title back in 2018-19.
Now a new tournament starts, with the neighbours sharing Group 2 with the Czech Republic and Switzerland. With all due respect to the talent on those sides, the Spaniards and Portuguese are expected to battle one another for the top spot in the group, making Thursday's match all that more important as a potential winner would have a jumpstart on the race for first place.
