The former Tottenham Hotspur player has identified one key transfer target.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham has urged the North London club to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire before the summer transfer window comes to a close.

Having now been stripped of his captaincy, Maguire's future is uncertain having already not been a permanent feature during manager Erik ten Hag's first season in charge of the Red Devils.

Now a number of clubs have been linked with making a move for Maguire and as Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou looks to mould the team in his image, Sheringham believes Maguire could be a perfect fit for a Tottenham defence which struggled during the 2022/23 campaign.

"Harry Maguire would be an excellent option for Tottenham’s defence," Sheringham told Lord Ping

"Whenever you watch Maguire play for England, he rarely lets anyone down. He is a solid, proven professional that is well suited for the Premier League.

"He has had a tough time at Manchester United – he took a lot of flak and was always the fall guy. I actually think that those experiences at United will hold him in good stead and could push him onto to have to a brilliant end to his career.

"He will have plenty to prove and I think he would be a great signing for Tottenham. I really think he has been hung out to dry at Manchester United.

"If I think back to any of the centre backs that I played with, I’m not sure they would have been able to cope with the amount that Harry Maguire has had over the last few years."
