The 31-year-old was on target early in the blowout.

There was a time when Thomas Muller wasn't sure if he'd ever return to the German national team, let alone be scoring for it.

Last week Muller made his first appearance for Die Mannschaft since March 2018, and on Monday, he notched his first goal since returning to the international stage.

Muller was on target in the 27th minute as the Germans ran wild over Latvia in a Euro 2020 tune-up, winning 7-1 in Dusseldorf. The 31-year-old now has 39 goals for Germany, but his latest marker signified that the Bayern Munich star was truly back.

A key component of Germany's World Cup triumph in 2014, Muller was one of a handful of stalwarts effectively banished by manager Joachim Low after the team's early exit from the 2018 tournament. Low kept Muller from donning the national team's shirt from March 2019 until re-calling the attacker last month as part of Germany's Euro 2020 squad.

It took Muller just two games to get himself back onto the scoresheet.

He also assisted on Leroy Sane's 76th-minute strike, which ended up being the game's final goal.

Germany opens its Euro 2020 campaign against France on June 15.
