Throwing medal away, waiting for referee in car park: A frustrating night for Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho’s first defeat in a European final was just one part a crazy night for the Portuguese manager.

Mourinho’s Roma were defeated on penalties by Europa League specialists, Sevilla, following a bad-tempered game that finished 1-1 after 90 minutes with no more goals scored in extra time.

Roma had taken a first half lead when Pablo Dybala finished but that advantage was cancelled out early in the second half when Gianluca Mancini put the ball through his own net.

The two goals were the only real highlights in a game that saw 13 yellow cards produced for players, staff, and Mourinho himself.

After the game, Mourinho, who had looked frustrated throughout, had no eagerness to keep his runner’s up medal and he threw it into the crowd where it was collected by a youngster.

Afterwards, in a video widely shared on social media, Mourinho hung around in the stadium car park where he confronted Anthony Taylor, the match referee.

Speculation is currently linking Mourinho to the job at PSG, and after admitting there are problems with how things are run at the Italian club, could this be Mourinho’s last game as Roma boss?

If so, the veteran manager with a wealth of accolades to his name will exit the club on the back of his maiden continental final loss.
