The Napoli captain is set to join Toronto on a four-year deal.

Toronto FC has announced the signing of Italian international Lorenzo Insigne on a four-year deal which begins on July 1st, 2022.

Insigne has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Canadian outfit and will be added to the roster as a Designated Player pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

The 30-year-old winger ends a 12-year spell at Napoli where he made 416 appearances in all competitions, scoring 114 goals with 95 assists.

Speaking to the Toronto FC website, club president Bill Manning labelled the signing as 'historic' and believes his talent can bring plenty of success.

"This is a historic and exciting day for our club," Manning said. 

"Lorenzo is a world class attacking player in the prime of his career. He was a European champion with Italy and has performed on the biggest stages during his club career with Napoli.

"Lorenzo has the talent to change games. He plays the game with joy and passion, and our fans and supporters are going to love watching him as a member of our team."

Toronto FC Head Coach and Sporting Director Bob Bradley said the following about Inisgne's imminent arrival.

"We are all looking forward to having Lorenzo join us this summer. 

“His ability to create chances for himself and his teammates is special. Having watched him for many years, I also know he’s also a player who works for the team.

"Lorenzo is the kind of player you come to watch, because there’s always a chance, he’ll do something unforgettable.” 

Insigne is also an accomplished name in the Italian national team earning 53 caps and scoring 10 goals. He also played a major part in last year's European Championship which Italy went onto win.
