It's an all-London affair as Tottenham Hotspur hosts Chelsea in the Round of 16 of the 2020-21 Carabao Cup.
Both teams entered the competition in the third round, each against lower-league opposition. Chelsea smashed EFL Championship side Barnsley 6-0 while managing to rest most of its stars, while Spurs earned a walk-over into the Round of 16 after League Two club Leyton Orient had to forfeit due to several positive COVID-19 tests among its players.
Needless to say, it'll be much tougher for both Premier League sides on Tuesday — and both managers will have to consider utitlizing something close to their respective starting lineups.
Jose Mourinho's Spurs have endured an uneven start to 2020-21, most recently dropping two points to Newcastle in league play thanks to a controversial handball that gave the Magpies a penalty kick deep into stoppage time.
Outside the league, Spurs have had much more success. Aside from the fortuitous default Carabao Cup victory over Leyton Orient, Tottenham has cruised through Europa League qualifying with wins over Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Shkendija.
None of those teams are Chelsea, of course, but Frank Lampard's men have also had struggles of their own.
The Blues followed up a Premier League opening-weekend win over Brighton with an ugly loss to Liverpool and a 3-3 draw with West Brom on Matchday 3 that required a furious comeback to secure the single point. Like Tottenham, Chelsea fancies itself a title contender, but results haven't supported that theory in the early going.
With that in mind, perhaps a cup fixture against a good opponent is just what the doctor ordered for one of these two London clubs. Tune in Tuesday to find out which one.
