The 2019-20 UEFA Women's Champions League final features two of the most successful teams in the history of the sport, as Olympique Lyonnais takes on VfL Wolfsburg.
It's a rematch of the 2012-13 final, which was claimed by the German side as the first of back-to-back continental crowns. Since then, Lyon has established itself as the titan of the women's game, with the 14-time French champion winning the last four Champions League tournaments.
In total, Lyon boasts a record six UWCL titles, and it has participated in eight total finals — all since 2010. It's an unprecedented run of dominance that doesn't look to be ending any time soon, although Wolfsburg will be keen to recreate the teams' last meeting in the final.
A portion of Lyon's recent success is owed to Kadeisha Buchanan, the club's Canadian defender who makes up one half of a world-class centre-back partnership along with prolific France international Wendie Renard. The duo are as well-rounded as any in the game, and they form the backbone of a Lyon defence that has only allowed two goals in the current edition of the tournament.
If Wolfsburg is to have any success in Sunday's match, it'll have to break through the Buchanan and Renard-led Lyon backline. The odds are not in Die Wölfinnen's favour.
