Former Chelsea defender William Gallas says a potential move by the Premier League club for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen could negatively affect one of their current players.

Nicolas Jackson is in his first season at Stamford Bridge and currently sits among the top 10 goalscorers in the league, with the Senegal international having scored seven times in his first English top flight campaign so far.

Despite Jackson's early success, Chelsea have been linked to Osimhen, and with the January transfer window rapidly approaching the rumours may continue to swirl.

For Gallas, such a move could be detrimental to Jackson's development, and the two-time Premier League champion is puzzled by the club's reported interest in the Napoli star.

"If Chelsea sign a new striker like Osimhen, what happens to Jackson?" Gallas said to Lord Ping. "You will lose him. You have to give him the opportunity to be the number one striker and that’s why for me, it’s very difficult to understand what they’re doing.

"At the moment, it’s difficult to understand what the board are doing. They’re just signing so many players and have many players in the same position.

"If you want to keep Jackson on his feet, you have to finish your season with him to see how many he scores at the end of the season.

"I think Jackson will score between 15-20 goals this season and it’s not easy to score that many, so he’d have done well."
