West Ham United were on the verge of splitting the points with hosts Everton on Saturday.

Until Tomas Soucek got his foot on the ball in stoppage time.

Soucek connected on a sensational strike into the top corner that sent the visitors into jubilation just after added time had started, and that was followed up by an Edson Alvarez goal moments later to seal a 3-1 victory for the Hammers at Goodison Park.

The London side still have an outside shot at qualifying for European football next season, and results such as Saturday's are much-needed if they are to continue to make their case.

For Soucek, the game-winning goal came at exactly the right time for him and his side, who are still active in this season's Europa League as well.

"One of the best of my career, a special one," Soucek said of the goal to BBC Match of the Day. "Another winning goal for West Ham especially special after this tough game.

"Hopefully that goal will help us, we have two wins in a row now and we look forward to the Europa League."

While the Czech Republic international is happy to have played his part in the victory, Soucek was quick to give praise to his goalkeeper for allowing West Ham the opportunity to come back after Everton had opened the scoring in the 56th minute.

"Before the game I said it would be tough and it was," Soucek said. "After that we concede nearly from the penalty, Alphonse [Areola] great performance. Last 10 minutes was crazy and I'm so happy to help the team."
