The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar, and won't be in June or July this time around.

It's World Cup year in football, but the 2022 version in Qatar will be held in November/December due to the climate usually expected in Qatar in the traditional summer months.

With the tournament fast approaching, the final details are falling into place and that means the draw for the competition is getting close.

And this week, the whole thing will feel that little bit more real when the 32 qualified teams are assigned to eight groups of four for the initial fortnight of action.

So, how will it work? Who can be drawn with whom?

Here's all you need to know about the upcoming draw.

When is the 2022 World Cup draw?

The draw for the group stages of the World Cup will take place on Friday, April 1st in Doha, Qatar. The draw will take place at 5pm BST / 6pm CET / noon ET / 9am PT.

Who has qualified for the 2022 World Cup so far?

Qatar were the first team to qualify as host nation and the final teams will be decided in June with three places expected to be filled that month.

Who are the seeded teams?

With Qatar being the host nation, they are automatically guaranteed a seeded place and will go into group A in Friday's draw. The remaining seeded teams are Brazil, Belgium, France, England, Spain, Portugal and Argentina. With some qualifiers still to be played, some pots remain incomplete. 

Format for 2022 World Cup draw

The format for the World Cup will see Qatar and seven seeded teams take their place in eight groups. The remaining teams will then be drawn into the groups although no group can have more than two teams from Europe.

The top two in each group qualifies for the knockout stages, at which point the tournament becomes a straight-up single elimination bracket from 16 in the second round, to 8 in the quarter-finals, then finally 4 semi-finalists and of course, two teams to decide who lifts the trophy.

When does the World Cup start and what date is the final?

The 2022 World Cup gets underway on November 21st. The final will take place on December 18th.
