Manchester United battled back from a late deficit to earn a 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Sunday, ending the Red Devils' three-match Premier League losing streak and denying the home side from adding to their lead atop the standings.

It was actually United who struck first in the hotly-contested derby match, with Lisandro Martinez scoring in the 52nd minute for the visitors before Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah struck 11 minutes apart to give Liverpool the lead with 20 minutes left to play.

Amad Diallo then salvaged the draw for the Red Devils in the 80th minute, securing a point for the visitors that few would've predicted prior to kick-off.

Yet despite the comeback and an overall good performance by United, they were left feeling like they could've done more against a Liverpool side that looked uncharacteristically flat throughout Sunday's match.

"We have been criticised and fairly," United captain Bruno Fernandes told Sky Sports. "Our position in the table says it all, we have lost too many points.

"Even today we can't be happy with a point. We need the points and we could've won the game at the end, but it's a fair result. Both teams played good football."

The result allowed the Red Devils to climb into 13th place in the standings, but Fernandes demanded much more from himself and his team going forward and questioned why they haven't played as well for most of the season so far.

"I'm pretty upset," he said. "If we show this level at Liverpool, first in the league, why can't we do this everywhere? It frustrates me. Also, finally I did a proper performance. We said we need much more from ourselves to get more from this season.

"Being 2-1 [down] then scoring it's good to get a point but we need more. Now we have an FA Cup tie at Arsenal [next weekend] and it is going to be very tough but we want to get to the final again.

"We know how tough it is to play against Liverpool. Today we put in a real effort to the game, playing with some passion and heart is what is going to give you something from the game. You have to put in effort and that's why we took something from today.

"It can't stop here, We have to bring this frustration to the next game to understand this has to be the level. If we can do it an Anfield, we have to do it everywhere."
