It's been a mixed start to Chelsea's 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

After spending over £1 billion since Todd Boehly's takeover of Chelsea in May 2022, it would be expected that the West London club would be blowing competition away in the Premier League.

That however has not been the case, instead the arrival of star names has not brought instant success to Stamford Bridge and now without European football this season, and a new manager in the form of Mauricio Pochettino, fans are hoping the team will be able to develop some chemistry.

But some of the new faces at Chelsea are struggling and one of those is Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk.

The 22-year-old arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk in January for a fee worth potentially £89m but he is yet to make an impact. He was handed his first start of the season this past Sunday in a disappointing 0-0 draw against Bournemouth and failed to make positive impression on his manager.

While Mudryk's poor performances are the not the sole blame for Chelsea's mixed start to the season, club legend Emmanuel Petit believes that the winger needs to change one aspect of his game if he is to thrive in England's top flight.

"You can see with foreign players in the Premier League that they can struggle, not many thrive straight away," Petit told Betway

"The physical demands including speed is huge, you only have one or two seconds to think before you receive the ball. It’s a paradox because Mudryk’s qualities include speed and power with the ball, but he’s struggling.

"Mudryk is always playing with his back to goal, he should be running at them instead just like Doku did for Manchester City against West Ham.

"He received the ball, turned and ran at his opponents - and he scored! Mudryk doesn’t do that despite his speed."

Chelsea currently sit 14th in the Premier League table with just one win in their opening five games and are back in action this coming Sunday when they take on Aston Villa.
