Former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham defender William Gallas has praised Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario for his part in the club’s impressive start to the season.
The 27-year-old Italian joined from Empoli in the summer as a replacement for Hugo Lloris, who had been expected to leave the club, though ultimately he has remained with the team for now.
Vicario has gone on to impress under Ange Postecoglou as the Australian guided the Londoners up the Premier League table.
Spurs have often been beset by inconsistency or problems with high-pressure matches, but last weekend they came away with an impressive 3-3 draw at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City, to hint at a new durability.
Speaking to Lord Ping, Gallas praised the stopper.
He said: “Guglielmo Vicario has shown his quality from the beginning of the season. He was a player that arrived in the UK without a big reputation, not a lot of people knew him.
"He came into the team and had some unbelievable performances right away.
“He has made some great saves, and the defenders feel secure playing in front of him because he has been excellent so far this season.
"He is capable of making the difference. He can stop dangerous attacks and has already produced match-winning saves in the Tottenham goal.
"We should give Guglielmo Vicario a lot of credit. He is a big part of the reason Tottenham have had such a good start to the season. He is doing a great job.”
