Women's soccer at Tokyo 2020: How to watch Canada at the Olympic GamesCanada Soccer
The Canadians aim for a third straight medal.

Canada's women's national soccer team made itself a household name nine years ago, when it claimed bronze at London 2012. The Canadians repeated the feat four years later in Rio.

Now the team returns to the Olympic stage, looking for a third successive podium finish.

As was the case in the previous two incarnations, this year's team is led by the iconic Christine Sinclair. The 38-year-old is the all-time international goals leader — men or women — and aims to add another accolade to her impressive resumé.

Sinclair isn't the dominant force she was in years past, but she'll be surrounded by a younger core capable of performing on the biggest stages. Kadeisha Buchanan, Ashley Lawrence, and Janine Beckie are among the players now in leading roles under head coach Bev Priestman, with a wealth of top-level international and club experience to draw from. The Canadians aren't expected to overrun many teams offensively, but they should be well-organized and defensively stout as they look to advance to the medal rounds and beyond.
