All the league action, live this weekend on DAZN

Welcome to your weekend on DAZN: your regular preview and digest of all the key clashes in the major European leagues, live and exclusive for you to enjoy. In France, Lyon knows another three points will take them a big step towards another title, the league is on the line for Wolfsburg in Germany as they face champions and league leaders FC Bayern. FC Barcelona and Real Madrid once again lock horns in La Clásica with the hosts still unbeaten. Meanwhile, Fiorentina need to win to keep their hopes of finishing second alive and in England, it’s red vs blue in Manchester with neither side able to consider what defeat means.

Let’s get cracking.

D1 Arkema

Lyon cruised past Fleury to get revenge for their Coupe de France Femenine exit and remain seven points ahead of PSG. Paris thrashed Saint-Etienne to retain their three-point gap over Paris FC. These three teams are now comfortably ahead of Montpellier in fourth, who have a small gap over the chasing pack of Reims and Fleury. At the bottom, another loss for LOSC Lille and Bordeaux means time is running out for a great escape from either.

Game of the Weekend: Lille vs Olympique Lyonnais, Sat. 23, 08:30am ET/01:30pm CET

Sonia Bompastor’s visitors survived a scare to ensure they head back to the Groupama with a 2-1 lead over Benfica in the UWCL. Attention turns back to domestic duties, with Les Fenottes holding a huge seven-point gap over PSG. Another win for the visitors and they will take a giant stride toward the title with just four matches left after this weekend. Lille are seven points off safety themselves and will be hoping the champions have an off-day to allow them to pull off a monumental shock.

Best of the Rest: Montpellier vs PSG, Sun. 24, 04:00pm ET/09:00pm CET

Fourth hosts second with Montpellier looking to secure a big three points to increase their gap as they look to finish as ‘best of the rest’. La Paillade have relied on a strong defence this season despite limited firepower and Frederic Mendy’s outfit will need to be at their best to keep out the Parisians who have scored 56 times in the league. Les Rouge-et-Bleu were able to grind out a 2-1 win against FC Rosengård and will be keen to get another win to keep their good recent form going.

Frauen Bundesliga:

A Friday night shock saw Hoffenheim stun VFL Wolfsburg to cement their position in third and also allow FC Bayern to open up a four-point gap on the She-Wolves. At the bottom, FC Nürnberg grabbed a point to bring them slightly closer to RB Leipzig and FC Köln as we climb into the final quarter of the season. Who will be doomed with Duisburg?

Game of the Weekend: Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich, Sat. 23, 12:45pm ET / 5:45pm CET

Tommy Stroot’s side cannot afford to slip up again. Failure to beat the Champions this weekend will almost certainly ensure that the title remains in Bavaria, casting big questions over his future. An intriguing subplot will be the role of Lena Oberdorf, who is set to swap green for red this summer as she joins FC Bayern. The visitors are looking to defend their title and will know winning on Saturday will leave them with a seven-point gap at the top and one hand on the trophy.

Best of the Rest: SC Freiburg vs Hoffenheim, Fri. 22, 1:30pm ET/6:30pm CET

The visitors arrive in Baden-Württemberg knowing that they are in pole position currently for securing a coveted spot in the UWCL. A huge win last weekend has given them a huge shot in the arm and Die Kraichgauer can ensure they will end the weekend in third by winning the early kickoff. The hosts meanwhile are ensconced in mid-table and don’t have too much to play for, bar sneaking into the top half.

Serie A Femminile

No change in the Championship round, with AS Roma still yet to make their bow. Juventus remain five points over Fiorentina after their poor result last weekend, whilst Inter are bringing up the rear after their topsy-turvy draw against The Old Lady. In the Relegation round, a point has moved Napoli off the bottom and into the playoff spot as they scrap with Pomigliano to avoid automatically dropping out of Serie A.

Game of the Weekend: AS Roma vs US Sassuolo, Sat. 23, 7:30am ET/12:30pm CET

The Champions return to league action after a break that has seen them secure a spot in the Coppa Italia Femminile finals. With a chance for a domestic double-on, Alessandro Spugna’s side will not be taking anything for granted against a solid Sassuolo side. The visitors were impressive as they beat Fiorentina last weekend and Gianpiero Piovani will be keen to see his team show another good performance in the capital. Can they claim another shock scalp?

3

Best of the Rest: AC Milan vs Pomigliano, Sun. 24, 7:30am ET/12:30pm CET

When these two teams last met, a dour 0-0 draw highlighted the underperformance of the Milanese outfit throughout the season. They will be desperate to salvage something from another poor year and after a disappointing cup exit, the only remaining crumb of comfort is topping the relegation round. Pomigliano are bottom of the table and needs to find a point from somewhere, but they have already shipped 51 goals this season.

Liga F

No change at the top of the league in Spain with FC Barcelona holding a mammoth nine-point lead over Real Madrid. The capital club are almost certain to finish second, holding a nine-point gap over Levante, who are in a battle with Atletico Madrid and Madrid CFF over third spot. At the bottom, Sporting Huelva claimed a single point last weekend but remains 10 points adrift of Granada and Real Betis, who are trying to drag Eibar, Valencia and Levante Las Palmas into the dogfight.

Game of the Weekend: Real Madrid vs FC Barcelona, Sun 24, 01:00pm ET/06:00pm CET

The most famous fixture in world football returns with Real Madrid looking to finally get one over their illustrious rivals. Alberto Toril’s side are once again facing the prospect of a season without silverware, but ending their opponent’s unbeaten record and securing a first ever La Clásica win would be a notable accolade nonetheless. Jonatan Giraldez’s long farewell continued with another UWCL win, but Barcelona didn’t have it all their way as they triumphed 2-1 away against SK Brann. Winning Sunday will all but secure another title as they bid for a fantasy finish to his tenure as coach.

4

Best of the Rest: Levante vs Real Betis, Sat 23, 11:00am ET/04:00pm CET

A match which neither team can afford to lose. The hosts are in a battle for third place and a coveted UEFA Women’s Champions League spot. Patchy form has blighted their season since losing key attacker Mayra Ramirez and Granotes cannot afford to drop more silly points. The visitors meanwhile are scrapping for survival and need to get points on the board to avoid a terrible end to the season. Can Betis surprise their hosts?

Women’s Super League

Chelsea socked it to Arsenal in last Friday’s showpiece to ensure they stay top of the pile. Manchester City are breathing down their necks, however, ahead of a massive weekend of derbies for both sides. Manchester United meanwhile could be displaced by Liverpool in fourth spot, whilst Bristol City need to find some points from somewhere to avoid slipping straight back down.

Game of the Weekend: Manchester City vs Manchester United, Sat 23, 08:30am ET/01:30pm CET

Manchester once again becomes the battleground of the age-old debate: red or blue. This time, the hosts are riding high, unbeaten in 10 WSL matches and Gareth Taylor’s side could claim the top spot, at least temporarily by beating their fierce rivals. Marc Skinner enjoyed a new arrival to the family this weekend, but it’ll be back to business on Saturday. The Red Devils risk their season petering out if they fail to beat the Citizens. Can they avoid that fate?

5

Best of the Rest: West Ham United vs Chelsea FC, Sun 24, 12:30pm ET/5:30pm CET

Emma Hayes’s defending champions know the score - winning every single fixture in the WSL will ensure that they claim a fifth consecutive title. After doing business away in Amsterdam with a stunning 3-0 win against Ajax in the UWCL, the Blues will be keen to ensure they pick up a second London derby win in 10 days. The Irons won’t make it easy at home, however, and having already grabbed one shock result over a title contender, Rehanne Skinner will hope her side can repeat this feat and shock the league once more.
