Both women defeated bigger names in the run-up to the final, and now Lucia Bronzetti and Katerina Siniakova will contest the Bad Homburg Open championship.
Bronzetti toppled the tournament's fourth seed, eighth seed and the world No. 1 en-route to Sunday's final, although she benefitted from a bit of fortune as top-ranked Iga Swiatek pulled out of their semi-final due to illness. That won't matter to the Italian, who is gunning for the second WTA Tour title of her career.
Meanwhile, Siniakova's route to the final wasn't as perilous, but she did defeat a pair of seeded players in the earlier rounds before dominating Emma Navarro in two sets in the semi-finals.
Whichever woman takes the title at Bad Homburg will not only add a tournament victory to her CV, but will also have crucial momentum on her side ahead of Wimbledon next week.
