Another tournament, another new opponent for Bianca Andreescu.
The Canadian is the World No. 7 but has yet to face many of her WTA colleagues due to her lengthy recent injury spells and her meteoric rise to the upper echelons of the sport. Andreescu's quick climb up the ladder as a teenager, combined with an entire 2020 season wiped out with injury, means she's still facing several opposing players for the first time when she steps on the court.
Next up for the 20-year-old is a maiden meeting with Christina McHale, an American veteran who entered the 2021 Eastbourne International ranked 96th in the world. Andreescu would be wise not to underestimate her 29-year-old opponent, as the Canadian enters the Wimbledon tune-up tournament coming off consecutive exits at the first hurdle (at the French Open and German Open, respectively).
With the grass courts at the All-England Club looming, Andreescu will hope her first-ever meeting with McHale will be the first of a long string of matches at Eastbourne.
