Jade Cargill finally lost her remarkable unbeaten streak at AEW Double Or Nothing, giving up her TBS championship.
Cargill moved onto 66-0 after her victory over Tara Valkyrie, as was scheduled for the event on May 28.
Given her lengthy tenure at the top of the sport, few were surprised when she was able to keep hold of her strap.
However, the first fight was no easy ride for the champ, as Valkyrie pulled off her Road to Valhalla finisher, seemingly edging towards victory for herself. At the last minute, though, Cargill kicked out and stayed in the fight.
For the denouement, Cargill pulled off her own Road to Valhalla on Valkyrie, and that was enough to get the three count from the ref.
With yet another triumph behind her and both momentum and hubris growing, Cargill’s lawyer, Smart Mark Sterling, offered another title shot for any challenger, which brought a surprise contender out at that very moment.
Kris Statlander emerged, recovered from her torn ACL that she suffered last August, and threw down the gauntlet.
Cargill gave it all, and even slipped out of a vertical suplex to remain in with a chance. However Statlander was able to evade Jaded, then performed a piledriver to give Cargill no chance of recovery, to become AEW’s second-ever TBS champion.
