CM Punk’s dream of becoming AEW world champion has come true following a brilliant win over Adam Page at Double or Nothing. The entire PPV had largely been built as Punk’s first world title crack in AEW and when the bell sounded to start the match, both wrestlers delivered impeccably to provide a match worthy of main event status.
Following a long show that had started quietly, the crowd was fired up for the main event thanks to an incredible Anarchy in the Arena match that had gone on two bouts earlier. Both men exchanged moves throughout the first half of the match as they looked to gain an advantage, but it was in the final straight where things became more serious.
With the referee out, Page toyed with the idea of striking his opponent with the belt but couldn’t bring himself to do it. The delay allowed Punk an extra moment of recovery, and when Page attempted a buckshot lariat, Punk was able to counter with a GTS. The crowd roared the following three count that gave Punk his first title since arriving in AEW last year.
