Five mouthwatering opponents for CM Punk in WWE

Five mouthwatering opponents for CM Punk in WWEDAZN

The rumours were true. CM Punk returned to WWE on Saturday after extended time away from the promotion, and he did so to thunderous applause at "Survivor Series: War Games" in his native Chicago.

With the dust still settling from his shocking appearance, the next logical question is, "Who will CM Punk take on in his latest stint in WWE?"

DAZN has some suggestions.

Seth "Freakin" Rollins

This seems like the most natural feud given the long-running war of words between the two men, even after Punk had joined AEW.

Rollins called Punk "a cancer" and "a jerk" earlier this year, and was caught on camera flipping the bird in Punk's direction during the latter's return to WWE on Saturday.

Cody Rhodes

Rhodes and Punk are now both AEW alumni, and it was rumoured that part of the reason Rhodes left to pursue a WWE return was because of issues with Punk.

Since then, Rhodes has put it on the record that he has no hard feelings towards "The Best in the World," but rather thant he felt he had unfinished business in WWE.

Will that unfinished business now include a program with Punk?

Sami Zayn

One of the few big names that doesn't have much history with Punk, Zayn has shown himself to be an extremely versatile star who can mix it up in the ring and on the mic with just about anybody.

The promos between the men would be enough to get fans to tune in week in and week out, but there's also something about Zayn's in-ring style that could mesh well with Punk at this stage of the latter's career.

Drew McIntyre

This potential matchup may not be so obvious given their lack of known history together, but McIntyre was reported to be visually and vocally upset by Punk's return on Saturday.

Given how Rollins' displeasure for Punk was caught on camera and could potentially be a work to hype up interest in a feud, could McIntyre's outburst also be WWE planting the seeds for a program between world title contenders?

Roman Reigns

Punk's stature in the industry almost makes a feud with Reigns inevitable.

The "Tribal Chief" has faced down the biggest names in WWE and has come out unscathed, and Punk's addition to the WWE locker room gives Reigns another big name to tangle with.

Like many others, Reigns has some legitimate heat with Punk, but that could easily be focused into a program between two of the most popular wrestlers of their generation.
