The road to Wrestlemania begins at the Royal Rumble and wrestling fans have long been treated to high quality entertainment at WWE's longstanding January PLE. Here, DAZN looks back at the best Royal Rumble matches as voted for by users at Cagematch.

Royal Rumble 2007

Anything featuring Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker facing off is certain to score high, and that’s the case for the finale of the 2007 Royal Rumble match. The veteran pair told a wonderful story in the closing stages of this classic match as they teased numerous endings before The Undertaker secured victory. The Deadman would go onto Wrestlemania 23 to dethrone Batista for the world title.

Royal Rumble 1992

A star-studded affair that featured multiple main event stars, but it was Ric Flair and Bobby Heenan who stole the show. The latter’s heel commentary was nothing but a cheerleading session for Flair, but after overcoming Hulk Hogan and Sid Justice at the business end of the match, Flair justified the faith shown by Heenan as he won the WWE title for the first time.

Royal Rumble 2004

Featuring only the second ever time that someone had entered at number one and gone the distance to win the whole thing, the 2004 Rumble is also remembered for significant moments pitting Mick Foley against Randy Orton and the start of Brock Lesnar's feud with Goldberg.

Royal Rumble 2001

Steve Austin made it a hat-trick of Royal Rumble wins by eliminating the dominant Kane to secure his place in the Wrestlemania main event. Many stories were told in this Rumble match, but Austin’s victory was the correct result as he marched onto WWE’s marquee event for his memorable battle with The Rock.

Royal Rumble 2020

Intended to make Drew McIntyre an instant superstar, WWE placed Brock Lesnar as the bout’s initial monster before McIntyre received a deafening pop by eliminating the former UFC star. After removing Roman Reigns to secure the win, McIntyre’s path to glory was clear as he went onto to become world champion at Wrestlemania 36 despite the threat of COVID-19 delaying his big moment.
