Three possible main events for Wrestlemania 40 following the 2024 Royal RumbleDAZN
What bout will headline Wrestlemania?

Cody Rhodes is heading for another huge match at Wrestlemania but is the 2024 Royal Rumble winner about to finish his story at WWE’s marquee show?

After outlasting a competitive field and seeing off CM Punk in the closing stages, Rhodes claimed his second Rumble match in as many years and is now on his way to Wrestlemania.

The event will hit Philadelphia this year and DAZN looks at several matches that could take place at the showcase of the immortals.

Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes

A rematch from last year’s Wrestlemania and the match that will finally allow Cody Rhodes to finish his story by becoming world champion. That coronation was widely expected last year but in a shocking turn of events, Reigns was victorious as he maintained his incredible streak.

Rhodes has rebuilt quietly over the last few months and victory at the Rumble now puts him in pole position to face Reigns at this year’s show. With The Rock looming in the shadows, this contest is still not locked in but it’s the most likely main event after what we witnessed at the Rumble.

Roman Reigns vs. The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes

Could Rhodes finishing his story take on extra significance if he were able to get past The Rock on the same night?

Some wrestling news outlets have reported that a triple threat match is potentially in the Wrestlemania plans and if that’s the case, Cody overcoming two of the industry’s biggest ever names would work wonders for his own career.

As it stands, The Rock’s status at Wrestlemania is still unknown, but if he is to feature in the lengthy rivalry between Rhodes and Reigns, what part will he play and would his place in the match overshadow the launch of Rhodes’s world title reign?

Roman Reigns vs. The Rock

Not only the biggest match that can be made in professional wrestling right now, Roman Reigns vs. The Rock is perhaps the grandest match of all time.

A personal family feud steeped in history between two monstrous names would ensure the world would stop to watch and WWE has long been interested in promoting matches of such calibre.

Where this would leave Rhodes following the Royal Rumble win is up to WWE’s storytellers to reveal, but there’s no doubt that Reigns vs. Rock is very much high on the list of the company's priorities and WrestleMania is the ultimate setting for it.
