Will Ospreay reveals the advice given to him by legendary wrestler who is one of his 'heroes'DAZN

Before heading into 1PW’s All or Nothing special recently, Will Ospreay released a video on his social media channels.

The footage was Ospreay discussing the injuries he’d endured throughout his career with his most recent one suffered against Mark Davis in the New Japan Cup which side-lined the Essex wrestler for over a month.

A wrestler who has often applied a high flying and stiff approach to his matches, Ospreay’s body of work contains many hard-hitting classics which have no doubt taken their toll on his body.

With the match against his United Empire stablemate forcing him away from wrestling, Ospreay admitted that he may have to change his familiar style if his career is to have longevity.

Speaking exclusively to DAZN days after his video was released, Ospreay has revealed the advice given to him regarding the situation by one of wrestling's greatest ever performers.

“I remember having a phone call with [Chris] Jericho about this,” said Ospreay. “He called me in 2018 after I done a DDT off the apron to the floor against Kushida and he said, ‘You need to stop doing this because you’re going to hurt yourself.’

“I only really listened about 2020 because that’s when I really started toning everything down. If you actually look what I do, I don’t do as many tricks as what I used to.

“All the greats have had to evolve, and Jericho is one of my heroes. He’s actually one of the greatest of all time. A geezer you can genuinley talk to about this stuff and he gives you solid advice. He’s been able to do it and now it’s my turn to try and do it.”
