Would Tyson Fury going to WWE stop him from fighting Usyk or Joshua?

Would Tyson Fury going to WWE stop him from fighting Usyk or Joshua?DAZN

Tyson Fury appears to be heading back to WWE. The WBC heavyweight champion, according to Give Me Sport, is currently in negotiations to appear at ‘Clash at the Castle,’ which will see the wrestling giant return to a U.K. stadium for the first time since Summerslam 92 when they go live from Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

With Fury one of British sport’s most recognisable faces and with his personality the ideal profile for WWE’s larger-than-life image, Fury making an appearance at the event is a no-brainer for all involved.

The unbeaten boxer has featured in multiple exchanges with Drew McIntyre and some sort of exchange between the pair is likely for September’s event.

If Fury does show up in Wales, it will mark another date with WWE after participating in a storyline and subsequent match with Braun Strowman back in 2019. Fury was on numerous TV shows in the build-up to WWE’s show in Saudi Arabia that year and he faced Strowman in the Middle East in a staged clash for entertainment purposes, where he was victorious via count-out.

What about Tyson Fury in boxing?

Does Fury’s potential move into wrestling enhance his retirement status? After stopping Dillian Whyte in six rounds in April, Fury was eager to point out that he has walked away from the sport, but previous announcements on the same subject mean that some aren’t taking his declaration seriously.

With Oleksandr Usyk set to defend his world titles against Anthony Joshua on August 20th, the logical next step for the winner of that bout is to face Fury in an undisputed battle. Is that a fight we could see next after the Saudi Arabia rematch, or is it more likely that the contest marinates a little longer depending on Fury’s desire to return to the ring?

How Fury could juggle WWE and his WBC title

Fury’s rumoured partnership with WWE is likely to be a one-off deal to commemorate their grand return to a British stadium so immediately afterwards he would be able to start an eight-week camp. That brings us to November, but would it be Usyk or Joshua in the opposite corner? That’s highly unlikely seeing as they could be part of a hellacious fight less than three months earlier.

If Fury does return to WWE for a lucrative second cameo, then announces he will continue to box after all, a tune-up title defence is probably likely before the topic of full unification returns to centre stage.

Could Fury stay busy in the meantime by facing a Joe Joyce or Daniel Dubois? What about Otto Wallin or the returning Jarrell Miller?

Fury’s time with the WWE should not prevent him seeing competitive action in 2022, but his wait to become undisputed champion is likely to stretch into 2023 if he signs an agreement with WWE, no matter what happens in the ring.
