Cody Rhodes finished the story.
And with one end comes a new beginning.
Rhodes made sure of that by blasting Roman Reigns with three straight Cross Rhodes to exact revenge on "The Tribal Chief" and become the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion on Night 2 of WrestleMania 40, live from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday evening.
Under Bloodline Rules, which meant anything goes, "The American Nightmare" and Reigns sifted through interference from Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, Solo Sikoa, John Cena, The Rock, Seth Rollins and finally The Undertaker, before Rhodes snapped Reigns' stronghold as champion at 1,316 days.
Reigns had unleashed a Cross Rhodes on Rhodes and Rhodes responded later by spearing "The Tribal Chief" through the barricade. When Rhodes threatened to finish Reigns with a Cross Rhodes, he was greeted with a Superkick from Jimmy Uso. That paved the way for Jey Uso to rush in and spear his brother off the ramp.
Next came Solo who stopped Rhodes' next series of Cross Rhodes with the Samoan Spike. He was neutralized by Cena who gave Reigns one Attitude Adjustment and put Solo through a table with another.
A livid Rock confronted Cena and gave him the Rock Bottom, before Rollins, in Shield gear, was wiped out by Reigns.
The Rock and Reigns looked to have an edge when The Undertaker's gong sounded and the lights cut out. When they came back on, "The Dead Man" was behind The Rock, chokeslamming him to the canvas.
Rollins reappeared only for Reigns to dispose of him yet again, this time with a chair shot. However, that gave Rhodes the opening to detonate a trio of Cross Rhodes for the riveting victory.
A wave of the Superstars joined Rhodes in celebrating his feat. Also, Rhodes' mother entered the ring as she was given the Championship to hold.
