Tony Bellew says Canelo Alvarez can stop Artur Beterbiev

Tony Bellew says Canelo Alvarez can stop Artur BeterbievDAZN
Artur Beterbiev retained his world title this past weekend. Attention has now switched to a potential Canelo Alvarez fight.

Canelo Alvarez has what it takes to stop Artur Beterbiev’s menacing run. That’s the verdict of Tony Bellew, a former two-time world title challenger at 175lbs.

Last Friday, Beterbiev maintained his impressive stoppage streak with a ninth-round win over New York’s Marcus Browne. The talk in the immediate aftermath switched to a potential showdown with Canelo.

In 2019, the Mexican icon jumped to light-heavyweight to dethrone Sergey Kovalev. Despite reigning at 168lbs in recent times and admitting he’s moving to cruiserweight in 2022, speculation surrounding Canelo facing Beterbiev is often prominent.

Bellew is insistent that the four-weight world champion would be too good for the heavy-handed Russian.

“I think Canelo would stop Beterbiev, I’ve seen the warning signs there already, I’ve seen the shots that he can be hurt with," said Bellew when speaking to DAZN.

“If it does [the power being carried up] with Kovalev then I think it will with Beterbiev but as I said its styles make fights.”
