Edgar Berlanga vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez: New Yorker confident of landing huge fightDAZN

Edgar Berlanga remains confident that he will be one of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s next opponents.

The Mexican is expected to fight Jermall Charlo next in order to defend his status as the undisputed super middleweight champion, but the unbeaten American sees no reason why he cannot step into the ring with him in the next two fights that follow.

Berlanga last fought at the weekend after a year’s absence, beating Jason Quigley, and his promoter Eddie Hearn suggested that fighters such as John Ryder, Jaime Munguia (picked by Berlanga as another potential opponent) and others could be next.

Speaking to The DAZN Boxing Show, the 26-year-old believes that there is still a way through for Canelo to be next, or the one after next.

“Not necessarily, I got one of the best managers in the game right now. We are definitely gonna work something out,” he began.

“For sure, I am going to be one of those three, it could happen.

“We can still make that fight happen. Eddie just has to sit down and go over to PBC, and we get a fight.”

Discussing his plans with Hearn, he outlined his current deal and what he is expecting.

He explained: “Three, one of those are Canelo, either fight one fight and Canelo, or two fights and then Canelo.”
