Now Golovkin will be looking to settle the score once and for all when he meets Canelo for a third time this coming Saturday, but this time, the undisputed super middlweight title will be on the line.

DAZN gives an overview of Golovkin's long and successful career below.

Notable career highlights

Golovkin becomes a two-time world champion: October 5, 2019

Despite losing to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez 13 months prior, it wasn't long until Gennadiy Golovkin became a world champion once again with a points win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title.

It was a thrilling encounter at Madison Square Garden which saw the Kazakh pushed all the way by his opponent who was knocked to the canvas in the first round by thumping right hand.

In addition to becoming a world champion once more, Golovkin's win kept the dream alive of landing a trilogy fight with Canelo at some point in the near future.

It may not have been the result Golovkin was looking for in Las Vegas, but his performance in the controversial draw with Canelo Alvarez was one of his best.

The Kazakh kept Canelo quiet throughout the 12 rounds, using his jab to keep the Mexican pinned back against the ropes and there were some stages where GGG could have looked to finish the fight.

However, Golovkin was not awarded the win by the judges and instead had to settle for a frustrating draw.

In the build-up to Saturday's trilogy fight, DAZN re-scored the first encounter between these two great rivals here

Golovkin breaks down Kell Brook in UK debut: September 10, 2016

Originally set to face Chris Eubank Jr., Golovkin arrived on British shores to face welterweight world champion Kell Brook at London's O2 Arena.

While many British fight fans dreamed of Brook producing a huge upset against the unified champion at 160lbs, GGG made easy work of his opponent and cemented himself as one of boxing's most devastating punchers.

Brook gave a good account of himself in the opening stages, but after Golovkin managed to break Brook's eye socket in the second round, it was only a matter of time before the fight was brought to an end and trainer Dominic Ingle threw in the towel in the fifth to make sure his man was fit to fight for another day.

Golovkin wins his first world title: December 16, 2010

Gennadiy Golovkin's first shot at a world title could not have gone any better.

After beating Milton Nunez to claim the interim WBA world middleweight title, this clash Nilson Julio Tapia got upgraded to the WBA 'regular' title.

After dominating in the first two rounds, GGG brought the fight to an end in the third with a right uppercut before pinning Tapia against the ropes and landing a thumping left hand to the liver.
