The Indianapolis Colts are on the playoff bubble and will likely need to take some risks to make it into the postseason, and the ending to Sunday's 25-24 win at New England showed that they are ready to do just that.

Trailing by seven points late in the game, the Colts pulled to within one thanks to a 3-yard Alec Pierce run into the end zone with just 12 seconds remaining. Traditional thinking would be for the Colts to kick the easy one-point conversion and try their luck in overtime, but instead they tried for a two-point conversion, going for the win in regulation.

The risky plan worked as quarterback Anthony Richardson punched his way through the Patriots' defence to secure the much-needed victory.

With one gutsy play, the Colts pulled themselves to within touching distance of .500 and a tiny bit closer to the playoff line.

While Richardson was the one who carried the ball into the end zone on the winning play, the second-year QB gave credit to his team and coach Shane Steichen for deciding to risk losing the game in order to claim the win.

"I'm proud of my teammates [for] sticking through it," Richardson told CBS Sports. "Shout out to coach for just trusting me on those last couple of plays to make something happen. But I'm just proud of my guys for sticking with it and getting the 'W'."

Richardson further explained that Steichen has given him the self-belief needed to do what it takes to win football games.

"It's just the confidence that we have in each other," he said. "He was like, 'we're gonna go for two [points], we've got to win it right here. You've got to give it your all.' So that's what I try to do for my teammates and for the organization."

The win lifts Indianapolis to 6-7 on the season, good for the eighth seed in the AFC as of this writing.
