New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has locked his sights on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Pierce became the Raiders' interim head coach partway through the 2023-24 season. After the season, Las Vegas announced Pierce as the permanent head coach.
The Raiders play in the same division as the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have won the division in the last eight seasons.
And Pierce has devised a new plan to take the reigning champions down. Pierce said on The Rush Podcast, "You got the Jordan Rules. I'm calling it from now on, as long as I'm here, the Patrick Mahomes rules."
The Jordan Rules stem from the 1980s Detroit Pistons' aggressive tactics to stop Michael Jordan. Pierce elaborated on his idea, saying, "Before he became Michael Jordan, Air Jordan, the Pistons used to whoop his ass. Any time he came to the hole? Elbows, feeling him, love taps, we touched him, we're in their head, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, I'm touching you. As long as I'm here, it's the Patrick Mahomes rules."
A lifelong Raiders fan, Pierce also crystallised his feelings on the Chiefs. "We saw red, we hate red. It was on that kind of level, right? And I told them there's a difference between dislike and hatred. There's a hatred for the Chiefs."
The Raiders were the last team to beat the Chiefs. Las Vegas defeated Kansas City on Christmas Day. That win undoubtedly helped Pierce land the permanent job. And his comments will indeed fan the flames of this famous rivalry.
