The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2024 NFL Draft with plenty of positions to fill after seeing the likes of Tyron Smith, Tony Pollard, Tyler Biadasz, Johnathan Hankins and Michael Gallup depart this offseason.
After another failed playoff campaign in 2023, Mike McCarthy will know his team has to hit on the draft this year if they are to take the next step.
Here’s a look at what to expect from the Cowboys draft next week.
Dallas Cowboys draft picks
- No. 23 overall (first round)
- No. 56 overall (second round)
- No. 87 overall (third round)
- No. 174 overall (fifth round)
- No. 216 overall (sixth round)
- No. 233 overall (seventh round) (via Las Vegas)
- No. 244 overall (seventh round)
Key Needs
The loss of several players in free agency means the Cowboys head into this draft with a number of holes to fill. On offense, they could do with fresh blood in the left tackle, running back, wide receiver and centre positions, while linebacker and defensive tackle are their main needs on defense.
Predictions
With their 23rd pick, there are a number of ways the Cowboys could go, but help for the offensive line looks to be the most sensible option.
Tackle Graham Barton’s versatility means he could plug any one of the gaps in the Cowboys’ offensive front, so could be another wise choice. Tyler Guyton is another solid option.
Given the depth of the wide receiver class, there should be a good option waiting for them in the second round, such as Adonai Mitchell or Devontez Walker. The third round could then be the right spot to draft Tony Pollard’s replacement at running back, especially if Jaylen Wright is still on the board.
Final day picks should include a centre and linebacker.
