Former NFL quarterback and current NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky has drawn big comparisons between Drake Maye and current Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.
Maye is one of the elite quarterback prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. Many pundits and analysts have projected Maye as a top-ten pick at worst.
However, Orlovsky believes that Maye is not ready to start in the NFL. On Friday's Pat McAfee Show, Orlovsky said, "I think Drake Maye has to get the Jordan Love treatment. If you can sit him for at least a year, you can develop him into a really good player."
Jordan Love spent three seasons on the Packers' bench. He developed and learnt under Aaron Rodgers before enjoying a breakout season in 2023-24.
Orlovsky continued, "I commentated on one of Drake's first college games. I thought, 'Wow, this kid is wildly talented.' But his mechanics are still raw. You can't play him early.
"If you draft a young quarterback with mechanical flaws and play him early, they struggle. And it becomes impossible to fix those flaws. You must fix those flaws before throwing him into the starting lineup."
Draft analysts suggest that NFL teams have picked up on these potential issues. According to rumours within the NFL, teams are moving Maye down their draft rankings.
