The Detroit Lions and Jared Goff have agreed to terms on a new four-year deal for the veteran quarterback, worth up to $212million.
The deal sees Goff rewarded for an excellent 2023 campaign which saw the Lions win two playoff games to reach the NFC Championship game and contains $170million of guaranteed money, as per the NFL Network .
Last season Goff finished in the top four in the NFL in both touchdown passes (30) and passing yards (4,575) as he led a Lions offense that finished third in yards per game.
Goff’s new deal is worth $53million per season, which puts him behind only Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in the earning stakes at the position and ahead of Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts.
The deal will see him remain under contract in Detroit until 2027, with an option for the 2028 season and sees the Lions hand out new terms to another key offensive piece following Amon-Ra St. Brown and Penei Sewell’s new deals this offseason.
Goff’s new contract is also set to sound the starter gun on the next wave of new quarterback extensions.
Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescot, Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will all be hoping to agree huge new deals this offseason.
