Has the Super Bowl always been in February?DAZN
The Super Bowl is one of the world's biggest sporting events.

There is no question that the Super Bowl is one of the biggest events on the sporting calendar.

While the event features just two NFL teams based in the United States, it still has a worldwide appeal with all the pageantry that comes with it.

Not only is it a game between two of the NFL's best teams, but it also has a halftime show from one of the world's biggest music stars.

Over recent years, the game has been a mainstay in February, but has this always been the case?

Has the Super Bowl been played in February?

The Super Bowl has been the final game of the NFL season since 1966 and originally took place in early to mid January until 1978.

This then changed to late January from 1979 to 2003 before the showpiece event moved to the following month.

When did the Super Bowl start being played in February?

The Super Bowl was first played in February in 2004 and the game took place on the first Sunday of that month for the next 17 years.

Since 2022, the NFL's biggest game has always fallen on the second Sunday in February.
