Joe Montana has named who he believes to be the best quarterback of all time, and to the surprise of many it is not Tom Brady.
Montana himself is a name always mentioned when discussing the best quarterbacks ever to play the sport, with his four Super Bowl wins, two MVP seasons and eight Pro Bowl appearances speaking for themselves.
Key to Montana's selection is the subtle difference between the definitions of "greatest" and "best", with "greatest" referring to career achievements more than individual talent.
Former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Brady is widely considered to be the greatest quarterback of all time.
Brady's seven Super Bowl wins is not just more than any other quarterback, but more than any other franchise, while he also leads the NFL in most games won (286), most career passing yards (102,614) and most touchdowns thrown (737).
But speaking to Men's Health, Montana said the best quarterback of all time is Dan Marino — who he got the better of in Super Bowl XIX.
"I think [Marino] is probably one of the most unsung heroes of the game," said Montana.
"People don't talk enough about him or realize the numbers that he put up during the times that he put them up.
"He had the perfect torque of his upper body and strength to deliver the ball quickly at a fast release with accuracy."
