The Kansas City Chiefs are just four quarters away from NFL history after they saw off the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship game.
The victory for Patrick Mahomes and company means the Chiefs have made it to their fifth Super Bowl in the past six years and should they beat the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans next month, they will become the first three-peat champions in NFL history.
But first, DAZN News takes a look at what we learned from another Chiefs-Bills playoff classic.
The crushing inevitability of the Chiefs continues
Andy Reid’s Chiefs have made an art form out of doing just enough to win this season. Statistically, Mahomes has had the most ordinary season of his career, but he has consistently raised his game on the big plays and got his team over the line.
This was the story again against the Bills, with Mahomes always coming up in the big moments, converting on five of nine third downs, plus on their sole fourth down attempt.
Remarkably, this was the first time the Chiefs scored more than 30 points all season, on an evening where they knew they could easily be dragged into a shootout against Josh Allen’s electric offense.

For the neutral, playoff games between Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes do not disappoint. This season’s set of playoff games has featured few bona fide classics, but the two AFC foes served up another memorable instalment in the NFL’s best quarterback rivalry.
Mahomes was extremely efficient in the air and extremely effective as a runner, while Allen took time to settle and failed on a series of key quarterback sneaks, which means his wait for a playoff win over his opposite number must go on.
Allen is 0-4 against the Cheifs in the playoffs and was left wondering post-match when that maiden victory over his nemesis will come.

Xavier Worthy comes of age
Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy showed plenty of flashes of potential during the regular season, but Sunday saw perhaps the most complete game of his NFL career so far, hauling in six passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Worthy’s speed makes him a potent weapon for Mahomes and is a player that the Eagles will have to scheme for in New Orleans next month.
Adding insult to injury for Buffalo, however, was the fact that the Bills traded away the pick that the Chiefs used to draft the wideout back in April.
The Super Bowl table is set

After watching the Eagles blow away the Commanders earlier on Sunday, the Chiefs were able to line up a Super Bowl LVII rematch against. That game saw the Chiefs triumph 38-35 in a high-scoring clash as Mahomes was able to deal with an ankle injury to outgun Jalen Hurts.
While Steve Spagnuolo will have to gameplan for Saquon Barkley, there are plenty of familiar faces across the two rosters and the stage is set for a mouthwatering clash.
No three-peat-chasing team has ever made it as far as the Super Bowl and the Chiefs will need to be at their very best if they are to go down in NFL history with a bookend victory over the Eagles.
