Who is Pittsburgh's starting quarterback?

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has offered his opinion on the team's quarterback situation.

The Steelers have signed Russell Wilson and Justin Fields this offseason. Both are experienced NFL starters, and many pundits are excited to see the quarterback battle unfold.

Tomlin told reporters at the NFL league meetings, "We've been very transparent about the pecking order, at least to start.

"I just think that provides clarity for all parties involved. Russell is a veteran. He's got a proven process of readiness. He's been in this league a long time. He can rally troops, receivers, tight ends, running backs, etc. He's just got a lot of experience.

"Russell's in pole position; I think his body of work, you know, justifies that."

However, Tomlin did not close the door on Fields' chances to become the starter, "Rest assured, when it's time to compete, they'll be allowed to compete, and it will allow those guys to sort themselves out."

Tomlin also praised Wilson's hunger and preparation, "The biggest takeaway from those conversations is that he did his research. Before those conversations, he knew a lot about us, such as where we were, where we wanted to go, personnel, etc. The most attention-grabbing component was how thorough he had been in the research process regarding us.

"I think the most attractive component of his profile is his quest for greatness and legacy. This is a guy that's driven."
