Patrick Mahomes adds to growing legend by leading Kansas City Chiefs past Buffalo Bills and into Super Bowl LIXDAZN

The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls.

Patrick Mahomes made sure the Chiefs slid into that position by leading them to a 32-29 home victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday night. The superstar quarterback aired it out for 245 yards and a touchdown passing, while rushing in two more TDs to power the Chiefs toward victory, once again adding to his growing legend by coming up with the right play at the right time.

After the Chiefs' defense stuffed Josh Allen on a 4th down rush attempt, Mahomes didn't waste time authoring a fourth quarter drive in which he found JuJu Smith-Schuster for a 29-yard gain before rushing in a 10-yard touchdown run. That TD and a successful two-point conversion hookup between Mahomes and Justin Watson gave the Chiefs the 29-22 lead with 10:14 left.

Though Allen would respond by leading the Bills on a nine-play, 70-yard drive for the touchdown to tie the game with 6:15 remaining, Mahomes had plenty of time for the Chiefs to snatch the lead back.

That's when he led Kansas City on an eight-play, 51-yard drive ending in a 35-yard field goal by Harrison Butker to give the Chiefs the 32-29 edge with 3:33 remaining.

Allen's attempt to rally the Bills failed when his pass attempt to Dalton Kincaid was incomplete on 4th & 5.

Riding the wave of momentum from the Chiefs' defense once again, Mahomes drove the ball down the field, ending the Bills' hopes with a 17-yard pass to Samaje Perine with 1:35 remaining. The Bills had burned through their three timeouts prior to the clutch play and so the completed pass clinched Kansas City's Super Bowl LIX ticket.

The Chiefs have now eliminated the Bills in four of the past five postseasons and will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on February 9 for the chance to become the first team in NFL history to notch a championship three-peat.
