The New York Giants added Drew Lock to their quarterback room this week.

While the first few days of free agency have seen several teams settle on their quarterback situation for the 2024 season, plenty of others are still in flux.

With the draft more than a month away there is plenty of time for trades to be made, draft picks to be swapped and contracts to be signed.

But one franchise that looks to be heading into training camp with a potential quarterback controversy brewing is the New York Giants.

Daniel Jones began last season as the Giants starter, fresh from signing a four-year $160million contract extension after he led the team to a playoff appearance in 2022.

Jones’ 2023 campaign would be wrecked by injury however, with a neck problem seeing him miss two matches before a torn ACL in Week 8 ended his campaign prematurely.

Prior to this, the former number six overall draft pick had failed to live up to the lofty expectations that came with his contract extension, winning just one of his six starts.

Tommy DeVito and Tyrod Taylor plugged the gap at QB for the rest of the season, with the Giants moving to add Drew Lock this week via free agency after the former Denver Bronco parted company with the Seattle Seahawks after two seasons backing up Gino Smith.

While Jones is believed to be making good progress in his return from injury, it would appear that his position as the Giants starter is under threat.

That’s because Seahawks general manager John Schneider has that Lock decided to head to the east coast to compete for the starter job.

"They basically sold him on the opportunity to compete to be the starter," Schneider told Seattle Sports Radio 710AM. "And he felt like it was the right opportunity. He looked at Baker Mayfield's opportunity last year and felt that this could be something similar."

With Jones set to earn $40million in New York next year, the Giants would have to admit to making a costly mistake if they relegate him to a backup role, while they also have the number six pick in the draft, which could see them bring in another quarterback to add to the competition.
