The San Francisco 49ers and the Cincinnati Bengals won their respective NFL play-off games to leave them one win from Super Bowl 56.
The Bengals pulled off a 19-16 win at the Tennessee Titans, who are the AFC Conference top seeds, and their passage to the AFC Championship game is the first since 1989.
The Bengals will face either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship final.
The NFC’s top seeds, the Green Bay Packers, suffered a 13-10 home defeat to the 49ers. The defeat means that MVP Aaron Rodgers will not reach Super Bowl 56, and may be his last chance to do so given his rumoured impending retirement.
The 49ers will go on to play the NFC Championship game against either the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or Los Angeles Rams next Sunday.
