The Niners will honour one of their recent greats during the clash against the New York Jets.

The San Francisco 49ers will induct Frank Gore into their Hall of Fame and honour their former running back during the team’s Week 1 clash against the New York Jets.

Gore spent ten seasons with the 49ers, with his 11,073 yards rushing the most in franchise history, before spells with the Colts, Dolphins, Bills and Jets before he called time on his 16-year career in 2022.

The 41-year-old finished up with 16,000 rushing yards, putting him third on the NFL’s all-time rushing list, behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton. His 13,956 yards from scrimmage as a 49er rank second behind Jerry Rice.

The Niners selected Gore in the third round of the 2005 NFL draft and was renowned for his longevity and constancy. He earned five Pro Bowl berths during his time with the 49ers and appeared in Super Bowl XLVII in which his team were narrowly defeated by the Baltimore Ravens.

Gore will become the 31st 49er to be inducted into their Hall of Fame, joining the likes of Rice, Joe Montana, Steve Young and Ronnie Lott. The team will celebrate his achievements when they host the Jets on Monday Night of Week 1.

Gore’s son, Frank Jr., is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps and signed for the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent earlier this year.
