Sean Payton issues wake up call to Denver Broncos star ahead of preseason gamesDAZN
Head coach Sean Payton has given an insight into his preseason plans with the Denver Broncos.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has announced that starting quarterback Russell Wilson will start in the team's first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals this coming Friday.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Payton stunned those in attendance and fans by revealing that Wilson and his fellow starters will indeed suit up which is something rarely seen during preseason for NFL teams.

“I haven’t shelled it out yet but they’re going to play,’’ Payton told Mike Klis of 9News.

“I haven’t figured out how many snaps. We’ll figure out how many snaps… I’ve got a few notes written down. I don’t have a pitch count.

Payton then went onto name Wilson as one of the specific players who will feature against the Cardinals.

“Yeah that would include [Wilson], he’s a player."

Teams in the NFL often choose to not use their star players in preseason games with the fear that they may pick up a serious injury, but it looks like Payton is trying cover all bases when it comes to landing the Broncos a playoff spot for the first time since 2015.

But will this decision to risk star players in preseason matches come back to haunt the Broncos head coach, fans will find out on Friday at State Farm Stadium.
