Brandon Aiyuk’s agent has taken to social media to respond to speculation that his client has requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers.
Aiyuk is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract after enjoying the best year of his career so far in 2023, catching 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
That was enough to see him named as a second-team All-Pro and strengthen his case for a big-money contract extension.
Aiyuk last month declared that he was ‘trying to get what I deserve’, as the two parties look to agree on a long-term deal.
Although general manager John Lynch dismissed any trade rumours at last month’s owners’ meetings, all has been quiet on the extension front, with Aiyuk recently unfollowing the team on Instagram - a modern-day trope that unsatisfied players have a habit of doing during contract negotiations.
But despite these murmurs, Aiyuk’s agent, Ryan Williams, took to X to dismiss a report stating that Aiyuk has now requested a trade.
‘You need better sources’, was Williams’ blunt response to a tweet claiming Aiyuk wants out.
The next fortnight is likely to be a key period in negotiations between Aiyuk and the 49ers ahead of the NFL Draft which starts on Thursday, April 25.
