The NFL continues to grow in popularity in Europe, with more and more games being played across the Atlantic Ocean from the league's home base of the United States.
With the increase in attention comes a rise in fandom for the individual teams, with some proving more popular than others.
A new study by Betting.com sought to find out which teams were gaining the most followers in Europe, with analysts compiling over 1 million tweets from NFL hashtags and looking at the geotagged information to discern the highest percentage of support from outside the teams' home markets.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the New England Patriots led the way with nearly 10 per cent of tweets about the team coming from Europe. The winningest franchise in NFL history in terms of Super Bowl victories was the clear leader among European fans.
In second place was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winners of Super Bowl LV in 2021. The Florida team benefitted from Tom Brady's transcendent stardom both on and off the field as it gained them a huge following in Europe. Brady's retirement announcement following the most recent season led to a surge in UK Google searches related to the team.
Coming in third place are the Los Angeles Rams, who claimed the Super Bowl in 2022. The Rams' home base surely added to their appeal, given the global nature of LA.
