The NFL may be on hiatus as the offseason continues ahead of the 2023 campaign, but its teams are constantly growing in popularity.
A new study revealed the most popular teams in the league, and the results may be surprising.
According to analysis by CasinoAlpha.com, the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots are the two most-followed NFL teams on social media, with each boasting 10.7 million followers across their respective platforms (TikTok, Instagram and Twitter). While those particular teams occupying the top two spots may not come as a shock, the Pittsburgh Steelers' position as third on the list might surprise some fans.
The Steelers have amassed 8.8 million followers, more than each of the two teams that competed in the most recent Super Bowl.
Those teams are, of course, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, who landed at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. The Eagles (8.6 million followers) are masters of TikTok, where their videos have received 54.3 million likes, including a video asking their players which Rihanna song is their favourite (20.6 million views).
Meanwhile, the Chiefs (7.9 million followers) enjoyed the biggest boost of all the teams thanks to their Super Bowl LVII victory, as they claimed 400,000 more followers after raising the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
“It’s interesting to see which NFL teams are the most popular and generating the most interactions with their fans across all social media platforms," a CasinoAlpha.com spokesperson said, noting that the league itself is still the king of social media with a massive following.
"It’s fascinating to note that the official NFL TikTok, Instagram and Twitter accounts have a huge 70.6 million followers overall, which is more followers than the nine most followed NFL teams combined."
