All you need to know ahead of the biggest day of the NFL calendar.

In terms of eyeballs, the Super Bowl is the planet’s biggest annual sporting event. Hundreds of millions of eyeballs will be locked on proceedings in Las Vegas on Sunday night as the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers get set to do battle.

With so many people tuning in every year, the event attracts everything from NFL novices to gridiron die hards.

For those who only dip into the game every 12 months there can be a lot to take in, so here is a look at what you need to know ahead of the big game.

When is Super Bowl 58?

The action takes place on Sunday, February 11.

What time does it kick off?

The action gets underway at 6:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 p.m. UK / 12:30 a.m. CET (Monday).

Where is Super Bowl 58?

The game takes place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be the first time the Super Bowl is played in Vegas after the Raiders located from Oakland to the city in 2020.

Who is playing in Super Bowl LVIII?

Sunday’s game will see the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs, in a rematch of 2020’s Super Bowl LIV.

The 49ers are looking to pick up a sixth Super Bowl title after dominating the NFL in the 1980s, with their last success coming in 1995.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, are hoping to win back-to-back Super Bowls and make it three titles in four years and create what would be the NFL’s latest dynasty.

What players do I need to keep an eye on?

Patrick Mahomes is the sport’s best player and will be eyeing up a third Super Bowl success this weekend. His favourite target is tight end Travis Kelce, who is firmly in the media spotlight thanks to his relationship with Taylor Swift.

Isiah Pacheco and Rashee Rice are are their other offensive weapons, while on the defensive side of the ball Chris Jones will be key, as will L’Jaruis Sneed.

From a 49ers point of view, quarterback Brock Purdy - who was taken with the very last pick of the 2022 draft to earn the moniker ‘Mr Irrelevent’ - will lead a star-packed offense that includes Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle - all players with the talent to win a game on their own.

Defensive end Nick Bosa and linebacker duo Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw will look to set the tone on the other side of the ball.

Who are the coaches?

The Chiefs are led by veteran head coach Andy Reid, who will go down as one of the best coaches in NFL history when all is said and done. No active coach has more wins than him and he has masterminded the current era of Chiefs domination.

On the other sideline will be Kyle Shanahan, one of the sharpest offensive footballing minds of the past decade. He is looking for his first Super Bowl ring after falling victim to a legendary New England Patriots comeback when he was the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator in Super Bowl LI and coming up short when the Chiefs and Niners met four years ago.

Who is doing the half-time show?

The Super Bowl half-time show is one of the most-watched music performances of the calendar and the honours this year fall to Usher. Although the title of the most famous recording artist in attendance will likely fall to Travis Kelce’s +1.

What do the winners get?

As well as being able to call themselves the World Champions, the winning side will hoist up the Vince Lombardi Trophy (named after the legendary former Green Bay Packers head coach who led his side to victory in the first two Super Bowls).

Players on the winning team will pocket $164,000 for their success, with the losers earning half of that. Winning players and staff will also pocket a custom diamond-encrusted Super Bowl ring.
